Artist Statement

The known and the unknown is part of the mystery of the Australian landscape. My recent work continues exploration of this land by looking below the surface of what it is that we see. The various phenomena of the Australian outback, from the Min Min lights to the mirage on the endless horizons, excites me as an artist and allows me to explore the spirituality of the outback. More recently, the Min Min light is often represented by a small figure flying about in the landscape.

The Australian landscape is more than just dust, sand, colour and rock, more than the intense colour that envelopes us, and more than the patterns and motifs that typify the landscape and common to the many artists who paint it, both indigenous and those who followed. It has a metaphysical presence that captivates us.
